Diamond Tulip Pendant in 14k White Gold
$$$
14k white gold, natural diamonds
A client wanted to give his wife a tulip pendant for her birthday, timed to a trip the couple was taking to Holland. He chose a reference style, added diamond accents along the stem and leaves, and approved the design once he saw the render. When it arrived — after a shipping delay that had him worried he'd miss the trip deadline — he wrote back: 'The pendant is beautiful!'
'That looks amazing!! Let's make it' — on seeing the design render
'The pendant is beautiful! Thanks for helping me with this project' — on delivery

How they made it distinctive
-
01
Tulip bloom left polished and stone-free — diamond detail concentrated in the stem, leaves, and bail instead
-
02
Design adapted from a client-selected reference style rather than built from scratch, then refined into a 3D render
-
03
Diamond-set bail adds sparkle at the point where the pendant meets the chain
-
04
Medium scale (about the size of a penny) keeps the piece substantial without being oversized

Timed to a specific trip and occasion, giving the piece a fixed real-world delivery deadline
How you'd make it yours
Stone placement: this piece uses diamonds only on the stem, leaves, and bail; a new commission could add stone accents to the bloom itself
Metal: this piece is 14k white gold; the same tulip silhouette works in yellow or rose gold
Stone type: this piece uses natural diamonds; a new commission could use lab diamonds for a similar look at lower cost
Scale: this piece is medium-sized (about 19mm tall); a new piece could be sized larger or smaller to its own wearer
Chain: this piece pairs with an 18-inch cable chain; a new commission could pair with a different chain length or style
One of a kind: this exact pendant was designed for one client and is not reproduced — a new commission is an original piece inspired by this one, not a copy
Design changes made
The originally selected chain became unavailable during production and was replaced with a comparable style in the same chain type at a slightly lighter weight; the pendant design itself matched the approved render without changes.
Who this is for
This piece is for someone who wants a single, clear floral image rather than an abstract or busy design — something that reads instantly as a tulip without needing explanation. It's especially fitting as a gift tied to a specific trip, memory, or meaningful date, where the flower itself carries the sentiment.
How it's made
Once the design was approved, the pendant was 3D printed in wax and attached to a wax tree inside a flask. The flask was invested in plaster and fired in a kiln to burn out the wax, leaving a hollow mold. Molten 14k white gold was then poured into the mold, and once cooled, the raw casting was removed and prepared for the finishing stages.
After casting, the tulip bloom was polished to a smooth, mirror finish to let the rounded petal form read cleanly. The diamonds were then hand-set along the stem, into the two leaves, and along the bail connecting the pendant to its chain. The finished pendant was paired with a separately sourced cable chain sized to the client's preferred length.
Key note
The tulip bloom itself was left fully polished and stone-free, so the diamond detail is concentrated entirely in the stem, leaves, and bail rather than the flower form.
Pricing guidance
A medium-sized floral pendant in 14k white gold with diamond stem and leaf accents sits toward the lower end of the mid range for custom pendant work. Most of the baseline cost comes from the gold weight and the hand-setting of multiple small diamonds across the stem, leaves, and bail. Chain choice is a separate, additive cost on top of the pendant itself.
Moves price up ↑
- ↑ Upgrading to 18k gold instead of 14k
- ↑ Using larger or higher-clarity diamonds along the stem and leaves
- ↑ Adding diamond accents to the tulip bloom itself, not just the stem and leaves
- ↑ Choosing a heavier-gauge or more elaborate chain style
- ↑ Adding a matching earring or ring to create a set
Moves price down ↓
- ↓ Switching from natural to lab diamonds for the same look at lower material cost
- ↓ Reducing the number of diamond accents along the stem and leaves
- ↓ Choosing a lighter-weight, simpler chain style
- ↓ Omitting diamonds from the bail
- ↓ Selecting a smaller pendant size
Questions people ask
Yes. Placing diamond accents along the stem, leaves, or bail rather than the flower itself is a common design choice — it keeps the central shape clean and polished while still adding sparkle. This pendant uses that approach: the tulip bloom is left smooth and polished, with diamonds concentrated in the stem, two leaves, and the bail. It's a good option for anyone who wants a recognizable floral silhouette without covering the whole piece in stones.
Natural and lab-grown diamonds are chemically and visually identical — same hardness, same brilliance, same durability for daily wear. The only real difference is origin and cost: lab diamonds are typically less expensive for the same size and clarity grade. For small accent stones like the ones on a stem or bail, most people can't tell the difference without lab equipment, so the choice usually comes down to budget and personal preference.
A medium-sized 14k white gold floral pendant with diamond accents on the stem and leaves generally falls toward the lower end of the mid-range price tier for custom pendant work. The gold weight and the hand-setting labor for multiple small diamonds are the main cost drivers, with the chain priced separately. Choosing lab diamonds, fewer accent stones, or a lighter chain can bring the cost down from there.
A piece like this typically takes about one week for the design phase — sketch, then a 3D photorealistic render for approval — followed by three to four weeks of production once the design and final payment are confirmed. Production includes wax printing, casting, polishing, and hand-setting the diamonds. Rush timelines are sometimes possible if there's a firm deadline, but they should be discussed upfront so the production schedule can accommodate it.
The pendant itself is cast as a fixed-size piece, so the tulip shape and diamond placement can't be resized after production, though the chain length can usually be adjusted or swapped independently. If you want a different scale — larger or smaller than the original — that would need to be specified before the 3D model is finalized, since the metal weight and diamond count are calculated to match the approved size. Chain style and length are typically the easiest elements to change even after the pendant is complete.
Yes, 14k white gold is a durable, commonly chosen metal for daily-wear pendants — it resists tarnishing well and holds up to regular wear better than higher-karat gold, which is softer. Most white gold pieces are rhodium-plated for extra brightness, and that plating can wear thin over years of wear, at which point re-plating restores the bright white finish. For a polished piece like this tulip pendant, occasional cleaning and periodic replating keep it looking new.
Yes, diamond-set bails are a common detail on pendants like this one, adding a bit of extra sparkle right where the pendant meets the chain. It's a small addition in terms of stone count but makes a noticeable visual difference since the bail is close to the collarbone and catches light differently than the pendant body. It does add a modest amount to the setting cost since each stone is hand-set individually.
