We offer one complimentary resizing* on all custom rings for the first year after purchase. After that, we can still resize your ring, but a fee may be charged. If you do need us to resize your ring, we might need to add or remove some metal, which could make the ring feel thicker or thinner, (depending on whether we added or removed metal).
Keep in mind that not all rings can be resized. For example, due to their design style, organic, eternity, milgrain / enamel styles, can’t be resized and certain metals like silver or alternative metals like tungsten cannot be resized. Please feel free to read our blog for a more in-depth discussion on the resizing process.
*Free resizing is limited to =- 1/2

Fine jewelry is made to be worn and enjoyed, but like anything of value, it benefits from proper care over time.
The best way to care for your piece depends on the specific metals and gemstones it contains. To help you maintain its beauty and longevity, we’ve created a simple guide that walks you through how to clean and care for different types of fine jewelry.
When you receive your piece, we’ll also include a short care guide along with a complimentary polishing cloth to help you keep it looking its best.
And if you ever have questions or need support, we’re always here to help – whether it’s guidance, maintenance, or professional cleaning.

Your custom jewelry, when stored correctly, will retain its sparkle, shine and polish for years to come.
Here are 4 tips for proper storage:
- Keep things separate – Whether you keep your jewelry in a drawer or on a shelf or dresser top, ideally, each piece of jewelry should have its own compartment to ensure it isn’t doesn’t bump up against other pieces. If you don’t have an organizer, you can use a cotton or mesh bag for each piece to keep them separate in a drawer or box.
- Keep things organized – Pair and display earrings together on an earring tree, loop chains and pendant necklaces on pegs, and store rings in their boxes to prevent dust from collecting in fine nooks and crannies, especially if they have gemstones. When organized this way, in plain sight and attractively displayed, your beautiful pieces will be worn more often!
- Keep things cool and dry – Most jewelry, with the exception of pearls, is best stored out of direct sunlight and away from moisture. Diamonds and other gemstones can be harmed by moisture. On the other hand, pearls actually lose moisture in overdry conditions and can crack, so they should not be locked away in boxes by themselves.
- Traveling with Your Jewelry: When on the go, it’s crucial to keep your custom jewelry safe and well-maintained so consider using a JewelryThis travel case. It features soft compartmented sections to prevent tangling and scratches, keeping your jewelry dust-free and easily accessible during your travels. Additionally, this case shields your jewelry from sunlight and moisture, protecting gemstones, and its hard shell prevents damage from squashing.

The short answer is yes. If you own or rent your home, you might have included the value of your jewelry in your homeowner’s or renter’s insurance; however, the upper limit of this coverage usually isn’t nearly enough to replace a lost or stolen jewelry item. You can add a rider that covers specific property or, for special and expensive pieces of jewelry valued at over $2,000, you can purchase separate insurance. You will be asked for documents and appraisals, so have those ready, and be prepared to ask questions about coverage limits and circumstances like loss or damage.
Sometimes searching for and finding the right design can feel a bit overwhelming, but no worries! We’re here to help! First, if you’re not sure what you want exactly, try doing a Google search to see some different styles. If you find some you like, save a few photos of them, and then when you start your jewelry project with us, upload the photo(s) and describe as best you can what you like or what you want to modify. The more details you can provide, the better.
Also, if you can provide any of the additional information below, we’ll be able to get a better understanding of how you want your dream piece to look:
- Photos and images: Any additional photos you might have that inspired your dream piece.
- Gemstone information: If your design will include stones, we will need gemstone information from you. If you don’t know the exact dimensions, setting, or count, don’t worry. You can just approximate or leave the decision to the designer’s discretion. Click here to learn more about different gemstones available.
- Ring size: If your design is for a ring, we’ll need to know your ring size and the type of band you want. (Need help determining your ring size? See our ring size FAQ).
- Bracelet size: If you want a bracelet or bangle, we’ll need to know your size. For help determining bangle or bracelet size, see our FAQ on bangles and bracelets.
- Your budget: If you have a certain budget, please let us know. This way we can offer different options to you that will make it possible to meet your budget. For example, to cut down on the final costs, we could use silver instead of gold or cubic zirconia instead of diamonds.
- Deadlines: If you have a deadline you are working with, please let us know and we will work diligently to meet it.
- Special instructions: If you have any special instructions, comments, additional information or details that will help the designer build the model, please tell us.
Custom jewelry is created specifically for you, designed from the ground up around your vision, your preferences, and your story.
Unlike mass-produced pieces, which are made in large quantities and sold in retail settings, a custom piece begins with an idea and is developed through a collaborative design process. Every detail – from the overall concept to the metal, gemstones, and proportions—is intentionally chosen to reflect what matters most to you.
At JewelryThis, custom is all we do.
You can come to us with a clear design, a sketch, a photo, or simply an idea. From there, we guide you through the process—refining the concept, developing the design, and bringing it to life with precision and care.
The result is not just a piece of jewelry, but something personal, meaningful, and entirely your own.
If you’d like to explore what’s possible, we invite you to browse our customer stories, read our reviews and see how others have turned their ideas into one-of-a-kind pieces.
Designing a custom piece should feel exciting, not complicated.
Our process is thoughtful, collaborative, and designed to give you complete confidence at every step.
1. Share Your Vision:
Every project begins with you. You can start with anything, a photo, a sketch, or even just an idea. Whether your vision is fully formed or still evolving, we’ll ask a few thoughtful questions to understand what matters most to you and guide you in the right direction.
At this stage, we’ll also provide a preliminary price range to help align the design with your expectations.
2. Design & Refine
Once we have a clear direction, our design team brings your piece to life. We create a detailed, photorealistic render so you can see exactly how your jewelry will look before it’s made. This is a collaborative phase—you’ll be able to share feedback, explore refinements, and make adjustments until everything feels just right.
In some cases, we can also provide a physical resin model, allowing you to experience the size and proportions before moving forward.
We only proceed once you’ve fully approved the design.
3. Craft Your Piece
With your approval, we begin the production process. Your piece is carefully crafted using the selected metal and gemstones, with close attention to every detail—from structure and stone setting to finishing and polish. Each step is handled with precision to ensure the final result reflects both the design and our quality standards.
4. Delivered & Enjoyed
Once complete, your piece is carefully inspected, finished, and prepared for delivery. When it arrives, it’s ready to wear, gift, and enjoy, exactly as you envisioned it.
And our relationship doesn’t end there. We’re here for you beyond delivery, whether you need resizing, maintenance, or simply have a question down the line.
Custom jewelry isn’t directly comparable to ready-made pieces.
Mass-produced jewelry is designed once and replicated at scale. What we create is entirely different, each piece is designed from the ground up, around your vision, your story, and the details that matter to you.
Because of that, the value of custom jewelry is not just in the materials, but in the design process, the craftsmanship, and the experience itself. You’re not selecting something that already exists – you’re creating something that never has.
At the same time, custom allows for a level of flexibility that ready-made pieces don’t offer. We can guide you through thoughtful choices in design, materials, and details to shape a piece that aligns with both your vision and your investment.
For our clients, it’s not about comparing prices – it’s about creating something personal, lasting, and truly one of a kind.
Read our blog on the most common questions we get asked about bespoke custom jewelry for more information on this subject.
If you don’t know your ring size, please see this helpful article on how to properly determine your ring size. It includes a ring sizer that you can download for free.
If you want to keep the proposal a surprise, and need help with getting a ring size measurement, you can use our printable ring size guide.
That’s completely okay, many of our clients aren’t sure at the start.
If you’re planning a surprise and want to keep things discreet, we can guide you through a few easy ways to estimate the size without giving anything away. And if needed, we can always make adjustments later to ensure the perfect fit.
You don’t have to figure this out on your own, we’re here to help you get it just right.
Yes! and for many clients, this is one of the most meaningful ways to create something new.
We often work with heirloom pieces, inherited jewelry, or items that hold personal history, helping transform them into a design you’ll love wearing today, while preserving the story behind them.
That said, working with existing gold is a more involved process. Because older pieces often contain unknown alloys or solder, the gold must first be refined and purified before it can be used again. This ensures the final piece meets our quality standards and is built to last.
For this reason, we typically recommend this option when the piece holds strong sentimental value. Many clients find that the ability to carry that meaning forward is well worth the additional time and care involved.
If you’d like to explore this, simply let us know when starting your project. We’ll walk you through the options and help you decide what feels right.

If your engagement ring was created by us, then absolutely.
We can use your original design to create a wedding band that fits and matches it perfectly, without needing you to send the ring back to us.
If your ring was created elsewhere, we’d still be happy to explore the possibilities with you. You can start by sharing a few clear photos of your ring along with any ideas you have for the band.
Depending on the design, we may need to physically measure or scan your ring to achieve the best possible fit. This allows us to create a band that sits naturally and complements your ring beautifully.
Once we have what we need, we’ll guide you through the design process and provide a detailed preview, so you can see exactly how your wedding band will look before we move into production.
That said, in some cases, especially with highly contoured or fitted designs, creating a perfectly matching band may not be possible without having designed the original ring. If needed, we’ll guide you toward alternative options that still feel cohesive and intentional.
Our goal is always the same: to create a band that truly belongs with your ring.
This article on how to create a matching wedding can give you an idea of some of the design elements to think about to create the perfect match.

Fitted Wedding Band Design Process
We understand how much that piece meant to you.
Whether it was lost, damaged, or simply no longer feels like “you,” we approach these projects with care and respect for the story behind them. Our goal isn’t just to recreate what was there, but to help you feel that connection again.
If you still have a matching piece (like a single earring), we can use it as a reference to carefully recreate a new pair. If not, even a photo, sketch, or memory is often enough for us to begin. Our designers will work closely with you to capture the details that matter most.
In many cases, clients also choose to take this opportunity to refine or update the design—keeping the meaning while improving the look, fit, or durability.
You’ll be involved every step of the way, from initial concept to final approval, so the result feels right – not just visually, but emotionally.
We’ve helped many clients bring back pieces they thought were gone forever. If you’re ready, we’re here to guide you through it with care.
Check recrate your jewelry examples, read how we created a wedding band, or client’s story about how we recreated a lost wedding ring.
We often find that many couples enjoy being part of the design process, but if you’re planning a surprise, you’re in good company. Creating a meaningful ring while keeping the moment a secret is something we help with all the time.
There are a few thoughtful ways to estimate the ring size without giving anything away.
One of the easiest approaches is to ask a close friend or family member. They may already know the size or can help you find out naturally without raising suspicion.
Another option is to borrow a ring your partner already wears on the correct finger and use it as a reference. We can help you determine the size based on that, or you can use our printable ring size guide at home.
If you need to make an educated guess, most women’s ring sizes typically fall between 5 and 7 (with size 6 being the most common), and most men’s between 8 and 10.5 (with size 9 being the most common). When in doubt, it’s always safer to choose a slightly larger size, as resizing is mostly possible later.
Beyond sizing, we’re here to help you think through the entire experience. From discreet communication and packaging to flexible shipping options, we’ll make sure nothing gives the surprise away. If needed, we can even coordinate delivery to a secure location or a FedEx pickup point for added privacy.
Most importantly, you don’t have to figure this out on your own. We’ll guide you step by step, helping you design a ring that feels personal, meaningful, and right for the moment, while making the process feel easy and stress-free.
When you’re ready, we’re here to help you create something unforgettable.

Bracelet and bangle sizing are slightly different, and finding the right fit is key to both comfort and how the piece sits on your wrist.
To help you determine your ideal size, we’ve created a simple guide that walks you through the differences between bracelets and bangles, along with step-by-step instructions for measuring each one.
You can explore the article to find the best fit, and if you’d like a second opinion, we’re always here to guide you and make sure it feels just right.
The ideal chain length depends on a few personal factors, including your height, style, and how you plan to wear the piece with different outfits.
Understanding standard chain lengths can be a helpful starting point, as each length creates a different look and “hang” on the body, whether you prefer something close to the neckline or a more relaxed, longer drop.
Please refer to the chart below as a guide to help you find the length that best complements your style and showcases your piece.
If you’re unsure, we’re always happy to guide you and help you choose what will feel just right.

Chain Length Options

Packing and shipping when using a label provided by JewelryThis
1. Double the packaging
Start by wrapping your jewelry in a layer of bubble wrap. Once it’s wrapped well, put it inside a padded envelope or small box and then place that package securely inside another, slightly larger box or padded envelope. This will not only help protect your jewelry but also meet insurance requirements.
*Before sealing the package, though, remember to include a note with your project number inside the package.
2. Conceal your package
We recommend not to reveal the contents of your package on the outer label or anywhere else on the packaging. Doing so paints a bull’s eye on your package for thieves. Similarly, when you drop off your package at the post office, avoid telling anyone, including the clerk, that you’re shipping jewelry.
When you’re ready to address your package, please use the following address and please remember to write the address clearly and legibly:
Jthis LLC,
861 Sixth Ave, Suite 720,
San Diego, CA 92101 USA
3. Don’t use a drop collection or drop delivery service
Avoid using a drop collection or delivery service to send your package. The locations of these types of collections are not always secure. Rather, personally take your package to the postal service and ask for a receipt with the tracking number.
Packing and shipping when using your own label
4. Follow the instructions above as well as the recommendations below
If you are using your own shipping label, after following the first 4 steps, continue with the steps listed below.
5. Choose FedEx express/first-class or registered mail
FedEx and first-class, registered mail are the safest way to ship, but these methods sometimes take longer to reach their desired destination, so do keep this in mind if you need your jewelry to arrive by a specific date.
6. Jewelry insurance
It is highly recommended that you insure your package. If the item was originally purchased from us, we can provide you with a label and insurance.
7. Notify us – and get approval
Make sure to get our approval before you ship your jewelry or gemstone. After shipping provide us with a tracking number. This will allow us to follow the shipment and notify you when we receive it.
8. No notification, no shipping
Please do NOT ship us anything without approving it first, especially if the piece is valued at more than $500. JewelryThis assumes no liability for any loss, theft, or damage to goods during transit..
Yes, of course. You can schedule an appointment at our San Diego shop. We’d be happy to meet you. Just call us in advance, to make sure we know you’re coming please!

Each piece we create is made to order, so the timeline depends on the complexity of your design. On average, most projects are completed within 3–4 weeks, including both design and production.
If you have a specific date in mind, just let us know when placing your order. Your personal Master Designer will review your request and let you know what’s possible. We’ll always be transparent about timing and do our best to have your piece ready when you need it.

At JewelryThis, we stand behind the craftsmanship of every piece we create.
All of our jewelry includes a one-year limited warranty covering structural issues related to the manufacturing process. If you ever notice something that doesn’t feel right, you’re welcome to send your piece to us for a careful inspection. If a manufacturing issue is identified, we will take care of it.
Ring Resizing
We offer one complimentary ring resizing within the first year of purchase.
After the first year, we’re happy to assist with resizing for a nominal fee. Our team will guide you through the best options to ensure the fit feels just right.
What’s Covered
Our warranty covers manufacturing and structural defects.
While our pieces are designed for everyday wear, the warranty does not cover:
-
Normal wear and tear
-
Accidental damage or trauma
-
Loss or theft
-
Loose stones over time
If any of these occur, we’re still here to help. We offer repair services at fair and transparent pricing, and will always guide you toward the best solution for your piece.
Peace of Mind
For additional protection, especially against loss or theft, we recommend insuring your jewelry through a third-party provider or adding it to your homeowner’s or renter’s insurance policy.
Important Note
To maintain the integrity of your piece and the validity of your warranty, any repairs or modifications, including resizing, must be performed by JewelryThis.
Work done by third parties may compromise the structure of the piece, and in such cases, we’re unable to guarantee or extend warranty coverage.
Our Commitment
Every piece we create carries a story, and we treat that responsibility with care.
If anything comes up, whether it’s covered under warranty or not, we approach each situation personally. Our goal is always to find the best path forward and make sure your piece continues to feel as meaningful and beautiful as the day you received it.
Our Refund & Satisfaction Commitment
Every piece we create is one-of-a-kind—designed and crafted specifically for you. Because of this, custom pieces are not eligible for refunds, as they cannot be restocked or resold.
That said, our process is built to ensure you feel confident every step of the way. Before production begins, we create a photorealistic render image of your design so you can clearly see your piece and request any adjustments. We only move forward once you’ve fully approved the design. In some cases, and when helpful, we can also create and ship a resin model of your piece. This allows you to physically wear it, experience the size and proportions, and feel fully confident before we move into final production.
Most importantly, our relationship with you doesn’t end there.
If something doesn’t feel right when you receive your piece, we will work with you one-on-one to make it right. Every project is personal to us, and we approach each situation with care, attention, and a commitment to finding the best possible solution.
We stand behind our craftsmanship – and behind you.
A choker is a necklace that fits closely to the neck and is usually no longer than 14 to 16 inches in length. Unlike longer necklaces, which drape down to the collarbone or chest, chokers fit snugly around the neck like a collar. A choker is different from a torque or torc necklace, a metal ring that does not close completely and is opened by bending it. Chokers can be made from a variety of materials, including silver, gold, platinum, velvet, beads, leather, and more.
We’ve created this ring sizer that you can download for free to help you take the correct measurements.
Important! When you print the document, make sure you specify actual size, in the print instructions so that the tapes print out accurately.
Don’t know your finger measurement?
Measuring your finger for ring size is easy. If you already have a ring that fits just right, just measure the space from one interior side to the other interior side (the diameter). This will give you your ring measurement.
If you don’t have that perfectly fitted ring, there’s an easy workaround for that too. You’ll need some paper, a pen or pencil, scissors and measuring tape (or a ruler). Here’s what you’ll need to do:
Cut a thin strip of paper (approx. ⅛” – ¼” wide) that can wrap around your finger one time. It should fit securely enough around your finger so that it’s not so loose that is might fall off, but not so tight to make it uncomfortable when worn.
Use your pen or pencil to draw a line where the paper ends on your finger. Then, lay the marked strip of paper out flat and measure the length of the paper from your mark to the end of the strip. That number is your ring measurement.
Now that you have your measurement, you can proceed to the next step by looking for your measurement in the table below to find your comparable ring size.
