Star of David Heart Pendant in 14k Yellow Gold

$$$
14k yellow gold, lab-created diamonds

R. wanted a second version of a pendant she already loved, scaled down to a more compact size. She went back and forth on exactly how small it could go, settling on three-quarters of an inch once she learned that going smaller would mean losing the pave diamonds she wanted. When it arrived, she wrote: 'It's gorgeous! I can't thank you enough. It is exactly as I wanted it!!'

How they made it distinctive
  • 01
Star of David formed from two overlapping triangles with the top points reshaped into a heart silhouette, blending a traditional symbol with a softer personal touch
  • 02
Pave diamonds set closely along the symbol's outline rather than a plain engraving, a detail that required keeping the pendant at .75 inches instead of a smaller size
  • 03
Recreated from an existing pendant the client already owned, scaled down specifically for a more compact, everyday size
  • 04
High polish 14k yellow gold disc chosen specifically to match the original piece's finish
How you'd make it yours
Stone type: this piece uses lab-created diamonds — a new commission could use natural diamonds for the same pave look at a different cost
Metal: this piece is 14k yellow gold — the same design works in 18k yellow gold, white gold, or rose gold
Size: this piece is sized at .75 inches to preserve the pave detail — a new piece could be made larger with room for a denser stone layout
Symbol treatment: this piece combines a Star of David with a heart silhouette — a new commission could use the star alone or pair it with a different symbol
One of a kind: this exact pendant was designed for one client and is not reproduced — a new commission is an original piece inspired by this one, not a copy
Design changes made
The size was adjusted twice during discussion — from .75 down to .5 inches, then back up to .75 — after learning that the smaller size could only be achieved by engraving the symbol instead of setting it with pave diamonds, which she wanted to keep.
Who this is for
This piece is for someone who wants a meaningful cultural or personal symbol they can wear every day without it feeling oversized or heavy. It's especially right for someone revisiting a design they already love and want in a smaller, more versatile form for layering or everyday wear.
How it's made
Once the design was approved, the pendant was first printed as a wax model using a 3D printer and attached to a wax tree inside a flask. The flask was placed in a kiln to burn out the wax, leaving a precise hollow mold. Molten 14k yellow gold was then cast into that mold, producing the raw pendant once cooled and removed. After casting, the disc was cleaned up and brought to a high polish finish across the flat face and edge of the coin shape. The Star of David and heart motif at the center was then set by hand with small pave diamonds, placed closely together along the outline of the overlapping triangles and the heart silhouette formed at their tips, before a final inspection and polish.
Key note
The pendant's final .75 inch size was a direct production constraint: at the smaller .5 inch size the design team could not set pave diamonds and would have had to engrave the symbol instead.
Pricing guidance
A small round pave-diamond pendant like this sits in the mid range for custom gold pendants of this scale. Most of the cost comes from the labor of hand-setting many small diamonds closely together in a compact area, plus the 14k gold content of the polished disc. Diamond quality and the proportion of the disc covered in pave are what move the price most from there.
Moves price up ↑
  • ↑
Increasing the diamond quality grade above VS1 clarity
  • ↑
Enlarging the pendant so more surface area is covered in pave stones
  • ↑
Using natural diamonds instead of lab-created diamonds
  • ↑
Upgrading from 14k to 18k gold
  • ↑
Adding pave diamonds to both the front and back of the disc
Moves price down ↓
  • ↓
Reducing the pendant size further and engraving the symbol instead of setting stones
  • ↓
Using fewer, larger accent stones instead of a dense pave layout
  • ↓
Choosing a lower diamond clarity grade
  • ↓
Selecting a thinner gold gauge for the disc
  • ↓
Leaving the symbol as a plain polished engraving with no stones
Questions people ask
It depends on the design, but for a symbol made of fine outlines like a star or heart shape, there is a practical lower limit before pave stones can no longer be set. In this case, a .75 inch diameter was the smallest size that could still accommodate pave-set diamonds along the symbol's outline. Going smaller, to around .5 inches, would have required replacing the diamonds with a plain engraved version of the same symbol. If keeping real stones matters to you, it's worth asking your jeweler for this size threshold before finalizing a smaller design.
Lab-created and natural diamonds are chemically and visually identical — same hardness, same brilliance, same durability for daily wear. The difference is origin: lab diamonds are grown in a controlled environment rather than mined. For small pave stones like the ones used here, lab-created diamonds let you get the same dense, sparkling look at a lower cost than natural stones of equivalent clarity.
A round pendant in 14k gold with pave-set diamonds at a compact .75 inch size typically falls in the mid range for custom jewelry. The main cost driver is the hand-setting labor required to place many small stones closely together, not the gold itself. Diamond clarity, overall pendant size, and whether one or both sides are set with stones all shift the price from there.
A piece like this typically takes about five to six weeks from approval to delivery. The first week covers the 3D design and render for approval, and production — wax printing, casting, polishing, and hand-setting the pave diamonds — takes another three to four weeks. A final inspection and polish happen before the piece ships.
Yes, this is a common way to personalize a traditional symbol. In this design, the Star of David is formed from two overlapping triangles, and the top points of the star are shaped into a heart outline rather than straight triangle tips. It keeps the recognizable six-pointed star shape while adding a softer, more personal silhouette at the top.
Yes, 14k gold is a common choice for daily-wear pendants because it balances durability with a rich gold color. It is harder than 18k gold, so it resists scratching and bending better over years of wear, while still containing enough pure gold to keep its warm tone. A polished 14k pendant like this can be worn daily with normal care.
Yes, recreating a design at a new scale is a common request. The key consideration is what details can survive the resize — fine elements like pave stone settings or engraved text may need to be simplified or omitted if the new size is significantly smaller than the original. Working through a few size options with your jeweler, as was done here, helps identify the smallest size that still preserves the details that matter most to you.
Pave-set stones sit close together and low to the surface, which makes them fairly resistant to snagging during daily wear. Routine care is similar to any diamond jewelry: avoid harsh chemicals, remove the pendant before swimming in chlorinated water, and have the setting checked periodically by a jeweler to confirm no stones have loosened over time. With normal care, a pave pendant like this holds up well to everyday wear.
