Jersey Number Pendant in Sterling Silver — Name & Number 34

Sterling silver

A mother came to us wanting to recreate a gold jersey-number pendant design for someone special wearing number 34 — this one in sterling silver, with the name REESE built right into the number. After one round of feedback on the shape of the 4, she approved the final design and wrote back simply: 'Thank you so much!' when it shipped.

Size
Pendant approximately 3in tall. Bail sized to fit a 0.5in-wide chain.

How they made it distinctive
  • 01
Name REESE integrated vertically into the numeral 4 rather than engraved separately, keeping the design as one solid unit
  • 02
Scaled to 3 inches and matched in depth to a gold pendant the client referenced as inspiration, giving it a substantial, weighty presence
  • 03
Numeral style for the 4 was changed at the client's request after the first render to better match her preference
  • 04
Bail opening specifically sized to clear the client's own chain and clasp rather than a standard width
How you'd make it yours
Numerals: this piece uses jersey number 34; a new commission could use any number combination
Name: this piece spells REESE; a new commission could carry a different name or set of initials
Metal: this piece is sterling silver; the same block design works in yellow, white, or rose gold
Scale: this piece is 3 inches; a new commission can be sized larger or smaller depending on preference
One of a kind: this exact pendant was designed for one client's number and name and is not reproduced — a new commission is an original piece inspired by this one, not a copy
Design changes made
The client disliked the style of the numeral 4 in the first render and requested a different numeral shape; the second render used her preferred 4 and was approved without further changes.
Who this is for
This piece is for someone who wants to carry a specific number and name together as one solid statement piece, not as an afterthought engraving. It's especially right if you have a particular jersey number that means something — a player, a team, a personal milestone — and want it rendered at a scale that feels substantial rather than delicate.
How it's made
Once the design was approved, the piece was 3D printed in wax and attached to a wax tree inside a flask. The flask was placed in a kiln to burn out the wax, leaving a hollow mold of the pendant. Molten sterling silver was then cast into that mold under pressure, producing the raw pendant after cooling. After casting, the pendant was removed from the mold and cleaned up, with excess metal trimmed from the block numerals and lettering. The piece was then polished to bring out the beveled edges of the '34' and the vertical 'REESE' lettering to a bright, even shine. The bail was finished and checked to confirm it would clear the client's existing chain and clasp width before shipping.
Key note
The bail opening was sized specifically to clear the width of the client's own chain and clasp, confirmed from a photo she sent before production, rather than built to a standard chain-width default.
Pricing guidance
A large sterling silver jersey-number pendant with an integrated name sits in the mid range for custom pendant work. Most of the cost comes from the sheer amount of metal needed at a 3-inch scale and the fine detail work required to keep the lettering crisp at that size. Finish and cutout complexity are the next biggest factors.
Moves price up ↑
  • ↑
Increasing the pendant size beyond 3 inches, which requires significantly more metal
  • ↑
Upgrading from sterling silver to 14k or 18k gold
  • ↑
Adding diamonds or other stones set into the numerals
  • ↑
Adding a two-tone finish or oxidized background behind the raised lettering
Moves price down ↓
  • ↓
Reducing the pendant size to 1.5–2 inches
  • ↓
Simplifying the design to the number only, without an integrated name
  • ↓
Choosing gold-plated silver instead of solid gold for a similar look at lower material cost
  • ↓
Using a flatter, thinner profile instead of a deep block relief
Questions people ask
Yes. A name can be integrated directly into the design, often running vertically along one of the numerals as seen in pendants like this one. The process starts with a 3D render so you can see exactly how the name and numbers interact before anything is cast. Font style and placement can be adjusted at the render stage to make sure both elements read clearly.
Yes, sterling silver (925) is a durable choice for a large pendant like this, rating about 2.5-3 on the Mohs hardness scale, which is sufficient for everyday wear with normal care. It will not tarnish as quickly as plated metals since it is solid silver throughout, not a coating. Occasional polishing will keep the beveled details bright. It is a solid, practical metal choice for a statement piece at this scale.
A pendant at this scale with an integrated name sits in the mid range for custom silver pendant work. The majority of the cost is driven by the amount of metal required for a piece this large, along with the detail work needed to keep block lettering crisp. Size reduction is the single biggest factor in bringing the cost down, while upgrading metal or adding stones would increase it.
The design phase typically takes about a week, during which you'll receive a photorealistic render to review and approve before production starts. Once the design is approved, production — including wax printing, casting, cleanup, and polishing — generally takes a few additional weeks. The full process from deposit to shipping is usually around five to six weeks on a standard timeline, though revisions to the render can add a few extra days.
Yes, revisions are a normal part of the render stage. It's common for a client to request a change to a letter style, number shape, or element placement after seeing the first render, and a revised version is produced for approval before moving to production. No metal is cast until the final design is approved.
The bail opening on a custom pendant can be sized to fit a specific chain width, as long as that width is confirmed before production. Sending a photo of the chain and clasp next to a ruler or coin is the most reliable way to confirm the fit. This prevents a mismatch between the pendant's bail and the chain you already own.
Yes, the same jersey-number-and-name design can be produced in yellow, white, or rose gold at various karats. Gold will increase the cost significantly compared to sterling silver, largely due to material cost at this pendant's larger scale. Gold-plated silver is a middle option that gives a gold appearance at a lower cost than solid gold, though the plating will gradually wear with daily use.
Yes, a jersey number and name pendant like this is fully adaptable to any number and name combination. The layout — where the name sits relative to the number, and how the bail is placed — is worked out during the 3D design phase for each specific combination. This means the design is re-planned each time rather than simply swapping text into a fixed template.
