Engraved Silver Bangle — Cursive Love Note Bracelet

$
Sterling silver

A husband wanted to surprise his wife with a bangle for their wedding anniversary, engraved inside and out with a cursive love message and their anniversary date. He worked closely with the design team on the exact wording and placement of the script on both the outer and inner surfaces. When it arrived in time to give to her, he wrote that it looked nice and he planned to give it to her that day.

How they made it distinctive
  • 01
Engraved on both the outer and inner surfaces, rather than a single inscription — doubling the personal content carried by the piece
  • 02
Cursive script used specifically for a warmer, handwritten feel rather than a block font
  • 03
Bilingual phrasing incorporated into the primary inscription, reflecting a personally meaningful phrase to the couple
  • 04
A small heart symbol placed between two separate inside phrases as a deliberate design detail
  • 05
Closed bangle form chosen over a clasped bracelet for a clean, continuous engraving surface
How you'd make it yours
Metal: this piece is sterling silver; the same engraved-bangle design works in 14k or 18k gold for a different look and higher metal cost
Band width: this piece is 6mm; a new commission could use a narrower or wider band depending on how much text needs to fit
Engraving placement: this piece carries text on both surfaces; a new piece could use a single-surface inscription instead
Script style: this piece uses cursive; a new commission could use a block or serif font for a more modern feel
One of a kind: this exact bangle was engraved with one couple's specific words and anniversary date, and is not reproduced — a new commission is an original piece inspired by this one, not a copy
Design changes made
The client added a second engraved phrase to the inside of the band partway through the design phase, along with a heart symbol, and specified the exact spacing and order of the two inside phrases. The cursive line weight was discussed but kept as originally rendered, since a thinner script would not have been legible at full size.
Who this is for
This piece is for someone who wants their gift to carry a private message rather than a visual statement — the meaning lives in the words, not the design. It's especially right for a milestone anniversary where a handwritten-style inscription, read only by the person wearing it, means more than a piece built around a stone.
How it's made
Once the design and cursive engraving layout were approved, a 3D-printed wax model of the bangle was produced and cast in sterling silver using the lost-wax method: the wax model is invested in plaster, the wax is burned out in a kiln, and molten silver is poured into the resulting mold. Because bangles cannot be resized after casting, a wax resin model was shipped to the client beforehand so the recipient's wrist size could be confirmed before committing to metal. After casting, the raw bangle was cleaned, filed, and polished to a mirror finish across the entire band. The cursive engraving was then applied to both the outer surface, carrying the primary French-and-English inscription and anniversary date, and the inner surface, carrying a second personal phrase and a small heart symbol, with the two inside phrases spaced apart as specifically requested by the client.
Key note
Because a bangle is a single closed loop of metal, it cannot be resized after casting the way a ring can — which is why a fit-check resin model is sent before the final piece is ever cast.
Pricing guidance
A sterling silver bangle bracelet with cursive engraving on both the outer and inner surfaces sits at the lower end of custom bangle pricing. The primary cost driver is the engraving work itself — hand-guided cursive script on a curved surface takes more time than a straight-line inscription — along with the metal weight of a solid closed bangle. Moving to a precious metal like gold would shift this piece into a substantially higher tier due to weight alone.
Moves price up ↑
  • ↑
Upgrading from sterling silver to 14k or 18k gold — bangles use significantly more metal by weight than a ring or pendant
  • ↑
Adding a wider band, which increases both metal weight and engraving surface
  • ↑
Adding gemstones or a decorative pattern alongside the engraved text
  • ↑
Engraving in multiple languages or scripts, which adds proofing and layout time
Moves price down ↓
  • ↓
Reducing the engraving to one surface only (outer or inner, not both)
  • ↓
    Choosing a narrower band width
  • ↓
Simplifying to a single short phrase rather than a full multi-line inscription
  • ↓
Choosing a standard block font instead of custom cursive lettering
Questions people ask
Yes, cursive engraving can be applied to both the outer and inner surfaces of a silver bangle. The main consideration is legibility — a very thin line weight can become difficult to read once the piece is cast at actual size, even though it looks fine in a magnified digital render. Most jewelers will recommend a slightly bolder script weight specifically to keep it readable on a curved surface. The engraving itself is a separate production step that happens after the bangle is cast and polished.
A bangle is cast as one continuous closed loop, unlike a ring shank, which can be cut and stretched or compressed within a small range. Because there's no opening or clasp, adjusting the size after casting means cutting into the metal and re-soldering, which risks weakening the joint and disrupting engraving that runs around the surface. For this reason, most custom bangles are preceded by a wax or resin fit model so the size can be confirmed before the final metal is cast. Getting the wrist measurement accurate before production is the most reliable way to avoid a refit.
The standard method is to measure the inside circumference needed for the bangle to comfortably slide over the widest part of the hand, not just the wrist itself. Many clients use a piece of string or a soft tape measure wrapped around the hand at its widest point, then measure that length flat. It's also common to compare against a bangle the recipient already wears and measure its inside diameter directly, since that removes some guesswork. A resin test model sent before casting is the most reliable way to confirm fit, since it lets the actual recipient try the exact size before it becomes permanent metal.
A silver bangle with cursive engraving on both surfaces typically falls at the lower end of the custom bangle price range, since sterling silver is a lower-cost base metal compared to gold or platinum. The main cost driver is the hand engraving work itself rather than the metal, particularly when script runs on both the inside and outside of the band. Choosing gold instead of silver would raise the price substantially, mostly because a solid bangle uses much more metal by weight than a ring.
The design phase — creating and revising the 3D render — typically takes about a week. Because bangles require a fit-check step, a wax or resin model is usually shipped to the client for trying on before the final metal is cast, which adds time beyond a standard ring or pendant order. Once the size is confirmed, casting, engraving, and finishing typically take three to five weeks. Total turnaround can extend past that if a resize or refit becomes necessary after the fact.
Sterling silver is a solid, durable choice for daily wear and takes a high polish well, which helps engraved script stay legible over time. It is softer than platinum but harder than fine (999) silver, making it a practical balance for a bangle that will see regular use. The main maintenance consideration is that silver can tarnish over time with air exposure and needs occasional polishing to keep its shine. It does not have the same weight or cost as gold, which makes it a common choice for bangle-style pieces where a solid closed band already uses a significant amount of metal.
Yes, a bangle can carry separate engraved phrases on the outer and inner surfaces, and even two distinct phrases on the same surface with deliberate spacing between them. This requires confirming the exact wording, order, and spacing before the 3D model is finalized, since engraving layout is set before casting rather than adjusted afterward. Symbols like a small heart can also be incorporated alongside text. Getting the full wording and placement approved in writing before production begins is the best way to avoid needing a remake.
