Heart Accent Diamond Band — Custom Moissanite Ring
$$$
14k yellow gold, moissanite, lab diamonds
A client wanted a ring inspired by a design she found, with one specific change: she wanted hearts in place of the double hexagon shape, and a heart-filled charm in place of the original dangling tag. She was flexible about the exact arrangement and let the design team decide how many hearts worked best. When it arrived, she wrote that it was even more stunning in person, and that her mother cried when she saw it.
'OMG!!! I absolutely love this design! Yes it's perfect!' — on seeing the first render
'This is sooo beautiful Carrie!! Thank you for everything!' — on design completion
'OMG it was stunning! Even better in person than the pic showed. My mother absolutely loved it! She cried when she saw it!' — on delivery

How they made it distinctive
-
01
Double hexagon motif replaced with a heart design — a specific change requested from the very first message
-
02
Dangling tag redesigned as a pave-filled heart rather than a plain circle, adding sparkle to the moving element
-
03
Mix of moissanite and lab diamond stones used to maximize stone size and sparkle within budget
-
04
Fixed loop keeps the dangling charm securely attached while still allowing it to swing freely
-
05
Dense three-row pave setting across a 6mm band gives continuous sparkle rather than isolated accent stones
How you'd make it yours
Stone type: this piece uses moissanite with lab diamond accents; a new commission could use all lab diamonds or all moissanite depending on preference
Charm shape: this piece uses a heart; a new commission could use initials, a different symbol, or another motif in the same pave-filled style
Metal: this piece is 14k yellow gold; the same design works in 14k white or rose gold
Band width: this piece is approximately 6mm; a new commission could be made narrower or wider depending on the wearer's hand
One of a kind: this exact ring was designed for one client and is not reproduced — a new commission is an original piece inspired by this one, not a copy
Design changes made
The original double hexagon motif on the band was replaced with hearts, and the plain circular dangling tag was redesigned as a heart shape filled with pave stones, per the client's request from the start of the project.
Who this is for
This piece is for someone who found a design they loved but wanted it to carry something more personal — a specific symbol swapped in to make it theirs. It's especially right for someone buying a meaningful gift who wants maximum sparkle and a bit of movement in the design, not just a static stone setting.
How it's made
Once the design was approved, a resin model was 3D printed from the CAD file and shared with the client as a preview before casting. The resin was attached to a wax tree, invested in plaster, and fired in a kiln to burn out the pattern, leaving a hollow mold. Molten 14k yellow gold was then cast into the mold under pressure, producing the raw ring ready for finishing.
After casting, the band was cleaned and polished to a high shine across all surfaces. The round moissanite stones were pave-set in three rows along the band, and the heart charm — set with its own cluster of pave stones — was attached last via its fixed loop so it could swing freely while the rest of the setting stayed secure. Small lab diamond accents were set alongside the larger moissanite stones for added brilliance at the edges.
Key note
The heart charm is deliberately left to swing freely on its loop while the loop itself is permanently fixed to the band — a structural choice that keeps the moving element secure without letting the whole attachment shift position over time.
Pricing guidance
A pave-set gold ring with a dense stone layout and a dangling charm element sits in the mid range for custom rings of this complexity. Most of the cost comes from the labor of pave-setting dozens of small stones precisely and securely, plus the CAD and casting work needed to integrate a moving charm element into a cast band. Stone choice and the number of stones used are what move the price most from there.
Moves price up ↑
- ↑ Using natural diamonds instead of moissanite and lab diamonds for all stones
- ↑ Increasing the stone count or upgrading to larger center stones in the pave rows
- ↑ Upgrading to 18k gold instead of 14k
- ↑ Adding a matching design on both sides of the band instead of one side
- ↑ Using higher clarity or color grade for every stone rather than just the main accents
Moves price down ↓
- ↓ Reducing the number of pave rows from three to two
- ↓ Using moissanite for all stones, including the small accents, instead of mixing in lab diamonds
- ↓ Simplifying the dangling charm to a plain shape without pave stones
- ↓ Narrowing the band width, which reduces the total stone count needed
- ↓ Choosing a single row of prong-set stones instead of full pave coverage
Questions people ask
Moissanite rates 9.25 on the Mohs hardness scale, just below a diamond's 10, which makes it one of the most durable gemstone alternatives available for daily wear. It resists scratching and chipping extremely well in normal use, including work, exercise, and regular hand washing. The main visual difference from diamond is that moissanite tends to show more fire, or colorful flashes of light, under certain lighting. For a pave-set ring like this, that extra sparkle is often considered a feature rather than a drawback.
Moissanite and lab diamonds are chemically different materials, even though both are grown or created rather than mined. Lab diamonds are pure carbon, identical in structure to natural diamonds, while moissanite is silicon carbide, a different mineral entirely that happens to look similar to diamond. Lab diamonds generally cost more than moissanite of comparable size because of the material and growing process. Mixing the two in one piece, as is common with pave designs, lets a larger stone budget go toward moissanite for the bulk of the sparkle while reserving lab diamonds for smaller accent placements.
Yes, this is a common type of request when a client finds a design they like overall but wants one or two specific elements changed to suit their taste. The process starts with a sketch and then a 3D CAD model so the new motif can be test-fit into the existing structure before anything is cast. Because the band, stone layout, and new motif all need to work together structurally, these adjustments are usually resolved during the render-approval stage rather than after casting begins. This lets the client see exactly how the change will look before committing to production.
A pave-set ring with a mix of moissanite and lab diamond accents, in 14k gold, generally falls in the mid range for custom rings of comparable complexity. The price is driven mainly by the labor involved in setting many small stones securely and evenly across multiple rows, not by the stones themselves, since moissanite and lab diamonds are both more affordable than natural diamonds. Adding structural elements like a dangling charm also adds some CAD and assembly time. Exact cost depends on stone count, metal karat, and the complexity of any added design elements.
A custom ring with a pave stone layout and a dangling charm element typically takes around six to eight weeks from approved design to delivery, following a standard timeline. The design phase, including sketch and 3D render review, usually takes one to two weeks. Once the design is approved and moved into production, casting, stone setting, and finishing generally take another four to five weeks. Pieces with denser pave settings or added structural elements like a moving charm can sometimes take slightly longer due to the extra hand-setting labor involved.
A dangling element that is properly set on a fixed loop, rather than a loop that itself slides along the band, is a secure design choice because the attachment point does not move or loosen with wear. The charm itself swings freely, which is the intended motion, but the loop connecting it to the band stays permanently in place. This kind of design does require a bit more care than a fully static ring, similar to how a charm bracelet needs occasional checking, but it is not considered a fragile or high-risk setting under normal daily wear. Catching on fabric or hair is the main practical consideration to keep in mind.
14k gold is the standard choice for any ring that holds stones, including pave settings, because it offers a better balance of durability and metal purity than 10k. Lower karat golds like 10k can be more brittle, which makes them a weaker choice for securely holding stones in place over years of wear. The cost difference between 10k and 14k is relatively minor, so most custom jewelers reserve 10k for plain pieces without stones. For a ring with dozens of pave-set stones like this one, 14k gold provides the stronger, more reliable setting.
Yes, the dangling charm and side motif on a ring like this can be designed around nearly any shape or symbol a client wants, not just hearts. Common alternatives include initials, simple geometric shapes, or symbols with personal meaning, all of which can be filled with pave stones in the same way. The design and 3D render stage is where the exact shape gets finalized and test-fit against the rest of the band. The key structural requirement is that the shape can accommodate small stones securely if pave coverage is wanted.
