Men’s Jewelry – Today More is More

If you think you’ve been seeing more men wearing jewelry recently, you’re not mistaken. Men’s jewelry is definitely trending. The trend, driven largely by the growing number of popular male celebrities seen sporting jewelry (think Ryan Gosling, Johnny Depp, Harry Styles, Leonardo DiCaprio etc.,) has chipped away at the long-held view that jewelry is primarily for women, not men. In fact, whether they’re rings, necklaces, earrings, or bracelets, jewelry is becoming as much an accessory for men as it has been for women all along.

So what’s hot in men’s jewelry?

  • Right now, rings seem to be the hottest men’s accessory around the world, with the exception of watches. One big trend we’re seeing in men’s rings is in the type of metal preferred. While gold is still popular, so are platinum, titanium, and tungsten, which are more durable and give a more modern look to the jewelry piece. We are also seeing a lot of engraving on men’s rings and rings with brushed layers and textured finishes

  • Many of these trends, such as platinum bands and rustic, textured details and finishes, are also reflected in men’s wedding ring styles. Black diamonds and mixed metals are also very trendy in men’s wedding rings. In general, there has been a big shift away from the ‘one style fits all’ look for men to more customized wedding bands that suit a particular lifestyle and personal expression.

  • Statement rings are another big hit with men these days. Many men prefer a ring that holds meaning or helps them express a bit of their own, unique story. Rings relating to fatherhood, for example make great statement rings (as well as great Father’s Day gifts). Of course, class rings, signet rings, and championship rings have always been popular with men too.

  • Another trend we’re seeing is the preference for a comfort fit. The comfort fit is a type of band that is slightly domed rather than one that fits flat against the skin. This makes for a bit more comfortable fit, as the name implies, as well as makes the ring easier to squeeze over the knuckle.
  • After rings, necklaces are the next biggest trend in men’s accessories. A common look in men’s necklaces today is the braided effect, whether it’s a French braid, a Bohemian braid, or other braid style, this look goes great with stackable jewelry (bracelets too) and is worn with both relaxed and casual attire. Thick, medium-length chains are also a hit, with gold, silver, and platinum being the metals of choice. Pendant necklaces are on the rise too, but men’s pendant necklaces tend to be smaller and more understated than women’s pendant necklaces. And don’t forget chokers, which are worn much closer around the neck, and typically made from natural materials. Hemp chokers, for example are quite popular.
  • Men’s bracelets seem to be popping up everywhere too. Chunky, layered bracelets are popular as are beaded bracelets and, for men who prefer a more classic yet still fashionable look, solid metallic bracelets made from gold or silver are a big hit too.
  • There are some general trends that we’re seeing in men’s jewelry too. For example, whether it’s a ring, a necklace, a bracelet or an earring, skull accents are really hot in men’s jewelry right now. By skull accents, we mean everything skull related (such as the models you see below).

  • Men are also starting to view jewelry as part of their outfit. They are putting more thought into matching their jewelry pieces as well as to matching their jewelry to their outfit.
  • Last but not least is the preference for customized jewelry, which seems to be particularly popular with men. When we customize a piece of jewelry (women as well as men), we can turn that jewelry into a form of self-expression, which holds especially strong appeal to millennials. Technology such as CAD jewelry and 3D printing has enabled the growth of customization, so today more than ever customers can order customized jewelry pieces designed specifically to their taste.
