Jewelry Trends in 2019 vs Jewelry Trends in 2020: What’s in, what’s out

There are so many different types of jewelry and jewelrys styles available today, we thought it might be fun to take a look at the jewelry styles of 2019 vs the jewelry styles of 2020 to see how styles can change or transform in just one year. Indeed, as with all fashion, some jewelry trends are short term and explode onto the scene for a short time, never to return, while others get recycled as newer more hip or updated versions of the original trend. Let’s take a look at 2019 and 2020 jewelry trends to see what’s out and what’s in this year.

2019…

Mismatched earrings – This style isn’t for everyone, but it was trendy in 2019 and it looks like it’ll continue to be trendy in 2020 as well. It’s not always easy to get this look right, so some people opt for ready made mismatches rather than choosing them on their own. If you want to have fun and do it yourself though, pair a large statement earring with a smaller, more subtle style earring.

Pearls – Here’s an example of a classic style that may waver a little in popularity, but it’s a style that most jewelry lovers see as always appropriate, always fashionable, and always beautiful. Take for example, last year’s pearl jewelry, which featured different colored pearls, pearl hoops, pearl cuffs, pearl hair clips and more. This year’s pearl jewelry style, on the other hand, will feature mismatched pearl earrings, pearl dangle earrings, pearl cuffs, and of course long pearl necklaces, both in their polished and natural form.

Delicate layering necklaces – Delicately layered necklaces is one of those styles that when they’re trending they’re not just fashionable, they’re also fashion favorites, and yet they’re easily forgotten when new fashion trends come along. While 2019 saw layered necklaces that were more fine and delicate, this year, the look is more about chunkier, thicker, and heavier necklaces.

Stacking rings – It’s hard to give up on this trend; worn right, stacking rings can look both chic and elegant. Chunky stacking rings, rings with a lot of diamonds, geometric styles, and delicate rings were a popular jewelry style in 2019 for most everyone and if you’re a fan of this style, you’re in luck. It seems it’s still trending in 2020, with a little more daring; stack, mix and match, and pair rings together even if you wouldn’t think they’ll match.

Leather jewelry – Mixed medium – leather and gold, leather and beads, different colored leathers paired with precious metals – were not only popular in 2019, but also unique and beautiful. In fact, last year we devoted one of our blogs to discussing some of the different leather options available for leather jewelry. If you missed it, you might want to check it out, cause leather is again trending this year. You’ll be seeing leather hoops, leather bangles, and bangles mixed with leather and precious metals.

2020…

In addition to the jewelry trends from 2019 that are being carried over into 2020, albeit perhaps with a slight twist, 2020 has its own exciting jewelry trends too. Here are a few of the trends we can expect in 2020.

Nature themes – Nature themes are also fashionable this year with shells, leaves, and flower jewelry pieces as popular options.

Chokers – Chokers are still going to be fashionable in 2020, with chunky links stealing the show. Even better, wear them in layers, two or more deep!

Colorful jewelry – Colorful jewelry is back and the trend has many attractive options such as different colored beads, colored gemstones, and in keeping with the ‘mismatched’ trend, seemingly unusual pairings of colors that give a fun, slightly daring look.

Single earring – While we may still see the mismatched earrings look this year, we’ll also be seeing the single earring. Similar to mismatched earrings, this is a look that can be a little difficult to get right. Look for earrings that are big enough to make a statement all on their own.
