A Trip’s Memories Set in Tanzanite

When a client approaches us with a jewelry dream inspired by travel, we get more excited than usual, and especially when it is a piece that is for themselves, a “self-gift”. A travel experience is as individual as the creations we bring to life; as unique as each human spirit. Suzanne’s story is remarkable in that her jewelry dream was completely unplanned and may never have happened at all, were it not for a plane delay!

Suzanne was prepared for her flight home from Tanzania after a memorable trip full of adventure. Her bags were packed, her passport in the right pocket. When the flight was unexpectedly delayed for 48 hours, she found herself touring a local tanzanite museum, and was captivated not only by the striking color spectrum of the gorgeous blue-purple tanzanite itself, but also by the mining process as well as tanzanite’s importance to the local economy. In her two extra days in Tanzania, Suzanne had gained new friends, experienced amazing food, and was struck by the beauty of the local area. She tried, unsuccessfully, to find a suitable memento in the mine’s museum gift shop, hoping to stumble upon a tanzanite ring that she could wear to remember this serendipitous sidetrack to her plans.

After arriving home from her trip, Suzanne contacted Jewelrythis to commission the tanzanite ring that she had envisioned. We pored over every detail to create a memento that would be designed exclusively for her, visually stunning in every way, and also durable enough to be worn every day. To start we had our gemstone suppliers around the world hunt down and find Suzanne’s perfect trillion cut stone, a thrilling and exciting journey to be a part of. Once we found the gem in the deep blue hue that Suzanne had dreamed of, our master goldsmith 3D- scanned the tanzanite to get its unique specifications. This process helps our design team to design the perfect ring mount for each specific stone. It also allows us to share a photo-realistic render of what the ring will look like once complete. During the final design process, we were also able to show Suzanne a 1:1 resin version of her ring using 3D printing technology, which assured her that her ring was indeed what she had hoped for. Everything, of course, is in the details, and one of the most important features of this tanzanite ring was the color of the band. Suzanne emphasized the importance to her that the ring’s color tone offset the color of the tanzanite gem.

We worked hard to provide what Suzanne had dreamed of, a delicate 14K rose gold band showing off the ring’s centerpiece, a dazzling trillion cut 1.22 carat tanzanite in the bluest of blues.

“Thank you!“The tanzanite sourced for my ring is spectacular! I love the little flair on the side of the ring too. Unexpected but sassy like me. The combination of rose gold and the trillion cut tanzanite make the ring so special to me. This ring will always remind me of my trip to Tanzania. Also, Tricia really understood my project idea and communicated the status updates well. From beginning to end, the process was straightforward and quick. “
