Pendant For Your Own Gemstone
As custom jewelry designers, we have seen countless requests to create something special and breathtaking for a loved one. Doug approached us with a request for a pendant featuring four gemstones, one each for his wife, Carol, and three sons, as a Christmas gift for Carol. What especially inspired us was that Doug himself had cut and faceted his own gemstones for the pendant, a process that requires patience, skill and dedication. If done right, this pendant would truly be one of the most personalized and one-of-a-kind pieces we had made.
Doug wanted a simple and elegant design that Carol would love and that would also showcase his hard work, and we presented him with some options to look at. Time was of the essence, and he worked closely with our consultant to quickly finalize the design, a delicate sterling silver tree surrounded by a heart, its four branches each holding one of the stones. Tricia, our Jewelry Designer, drew a basic sketch which served as the basis for our model.

The stones were shipped to our lab so we could 3D scan each one in order to customize the settings to fit perfectly.

The 3D rendering process assured him that the pendant would accentuate the gems the way he wanted.
Finally, the casting in sterling silver was complete, the gems were set in place, and the pendant was off to its new home in time for Christmas. Shortly after the new year, we were tickled pink when Doug wrote to us to say that Carol hadn’t yet taken it off!
A piece created for a loved one always reflects and represents two people, the wearer and the designer. We took pride in helping him create a pendant that was not only a demonstration of Doug’s dedication and effort in cutting and faceting his own stones, but also a symbol of his love for his wife and sons.
