A Love Story That Began in the Most Unexpected Place

Some love stories begin with chance encounters; in cafés, through friends, or across crowded rooms.

This one began in a Discord server.

Six years ago, two people met in a quiet online community they never expected would change their lives. Allison had recently graduated high school and joined to connect with a writing community she admired. Her future husband had been invited through gaming, following a friend into the same digital space.

Neither of them was searching for love. But on September 6th, they met.

Despite the miles between them, something simply clicked. Conversations that started as messages on a screen became late-night talks, shared dreams, endless laughter, and the kind of connection that makes distance feel insignificant.

When Myth Becomes Meaning

Over time, their relationship developed its own language – shared references, symbols, aesthetics, and stories that belonged only to them.

Among friends, a comparison began to surface: Hades and Persephone. At first it was playful. Then it became something they recognised in themselves.

The duality, the distance, the return, the devotion and most of all, the pomegranate. What began as a joke slowly evolved into a shared mythology they fully embraced.

So when the time came to design their wedding rings, there was only one direction the story could take.

A Ring Design Sketch Rooted in Storytelling

Stepping away from traditional wedding bands, the couple worked closely with their master jewelry designer Carrie to create custom wedding rings that held meaning far beyond material value.

From the very first sketch, every design decision was shaped by their story as much as by aesthetics.

At the heart of the concept was a striking sculptural motif: a skeleton hand gently cradling a pomegranate. Rather than serving as a decorative element, it became the narrative centerpiece of the rings, a powerful symbol of memory, choice, enduring love, and lifelong devotion.

As the bespoke ring design evolved, another deeply personal layer emerged. The couple had shared six years together before their wedding, and that milestone became the structural foundation of the piece. Six years, six defining moments, each represented by one carefully selected gemstone.

Creating such an intricate design required meticulous planning and advanced 3D jewelry modelling. Every detail had to be precisely engineered, from the anatomical proportions of the hand to the way the pomegranate opens naturally to reveal six individually set gemstones within. The challenge was not only to create a design that remained true to its sculptural inspiration but also to ensure it was comfortable, durable, and practical enough to be worn every day.

The finished design seamlessly incorporates the couple’s birthstones, carefully chosen coloured gemstones, and a final ruby representing the iconic jewel-like seed of the pomegranate. Together, these elements transform the rings into a deeply personal work of art that balances exceptional craftsmanship with rich symbolism.

This is where the design truly came to life, where technical innovation, expert jewelry craftsmanship, and meaningful storytelling became inseparable, resulting in a pair of bespoke wedding rings unlike any other.

Refining the Form in Three Dimensions

With the concept approved, the hand-drawn sketch was transformed into a detailed 3D CAD jewellery model, marking the next stage in the custom wedding ring design process.

Creating a digital model allows every element of the design to be refined before production begins. Proportions, stone placement, comfort, durability, and fine sculptural details can all be carefully evaluated and adjusted with precision.

For this highly intricate design, the 3D model was essential. Every curve of the skeleton hand, the natural opening of the pomegranate, and the placement of the six individually set gemstones had to be engineered to balance artistic realism with everyday wearability.

This stage is where imagination becomes structure. What began as a symbolic sketch evolved into a technically accurate model, ensuring the finished rings would faithfully capture both the emotional story and the practical requirements of a bespoke piece of fine jewellery.

A Prototype You Can Hold

With a design this detailed, achieving the perfect fit was just as important as capturing its sculptural form. Before casting in precious metal, a wearable resin prototype was created and sent to the couple so they could try the rings on. This ensured the proportions, comfort, and overall fit felt exactly right before production began.

For the first time, they could hold their future rings turning a digital design into something real, wearable, and deeply personal.

Six Years, Six Stones, One Story

By the time the design was finalised, the couple had been together for exactly six years – a detail that became the quiet foundation of the piece.

This number also connected to the mythology that inspired the design, where Persephone eats six pomegranate seeds, symbolising a bond between love, time, and transformation.

Each custom wedding ring was set with six meaningful gemstones: their birthstones, two personally chosen coloured stones, a diamond, and a ruby representing the pomegranate seed at the heart of the design.

The finished rings transform this symbolism into a beautiful sculptural piece of jewelry, where story becomes form.

” I have used JewelryThis twice now – once to recreate a lost piece, and now to create a reflection of our story. Already knowing they were good, but they truly blew this original design out of the water. I will be coming back again for another piece.” – Allison

A Love That Became a Life

Their relationship did not follow a straight line. Looking back, it is almost hard for them to believe it began with a simple invitation into a Discord server.

But that is often how the most meaningful stories begin. Quietly, unexpectedly, and without announcement.

These rings are not simply objects. They are a record of time, distance, mythology, and devotion translated into something tangible enough to wear every day.

A reminder that the most meaningful custom jewelry created is never just designed.

It is lived.

Frequently Asked Questions About Custom Wedding Rings

How does the custom wedding ring design process work?

The process begins with a concept or story, which is developed into sketches, refined into a 3D CAD model, and then turned into a wearable prototype before being cast in precious metal and set with stones.

What is a 3D CAD model in jewelry design?

A 3D CAD model is a digital representation of a ring that allows every detail—shape, structure, and gemstone placement—to be precisely designed and refined before production begins.

Why is a resin prototype used in bespoke jewelry design?

A resin prototype allows clients to physically try on their ring before it is made in metal, ensuring the fit, comfort, and proportions are perfect.

Can I design a wedding ring based on a personal story or theme?

Yes. Many bespoke rings are designed around meaningful stories, symbolism, or personal experiences, making each piece completely unique.

What makes custom wedding rings different from ready-made designs?

Custom wedding rings are designed specifically for the wearer, allowing full control over symbolism, design details, gemstones, and meaning, resulting in a one-of-a-kind piece.
