Color is one of the 4Cs of a diamond (cut, color, clarity, and carat). Color consists not only of hue (e.g. yellow, pink, or blue), but also tone ( how dark the color is) and saturation, or intensity. While we tend to think of diamonds as colorless, in fact, diamonds come in many hues ranging from colorless to pink to light brown. These colors develop depending on different trace elements that are present in the natural gemstone. Most diamonds contain trace elements and have a slight hue that is fairly undetectable to the naked eye. Finding a natural colorless diamond (color D) is truly rare, and makes the diamond more valuable . The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) uses a letter scale to measure a diamond’s color with a different scale used for fancy diamonds.
When we source diamonds for jewelry, we guarantee they will be D-J color, unless there is a special request for a colored diamond, and we are happy to find those too!
