Otherworldly peridots are found in lava deposited by volcanic eruptions, as well as meteorites that fell to Earth. Peridots are one of the oldest known gemstones, with ancient documents recording mining of peridots as early as 1500 B.C. In ancient times it was believed to cure asthma if held under the tongue. Peridot can be faceted into brilliant cuts and are judged for their clarity and color. They make beautiful centerpieces for any piece of jewelry.
