Wedding Jewelry Trends Alert

Engagement rings and wedding ring styles are constantly changing and evolving. Perhaps it’s because there are so many factors influencing them – celebrities, music stars, popular movies, new technologies, and even social and economic conditions. Whatever the cause, the result is that couples have many unique and beautiful engagement and wedding ring styles from which to choose. Recent trends in wedding jewelry have been particularly innovative and varied, not to mention beautiful. Here are just a few worth noting:
- Different shaped diamonds. Brides have been increasingly moving away from the traditional brilliant round and princess cut diamonds and moving toward more oval-shaped stones such as lozenge-shaped or pear-shaped center stones, cabochons, and other elongated stone shapes. We are also seeing the baguettes used for center stones, a bridal style never seen before. Unique stone shapes can completely change the look of an engagement ring and elongated stones give the finger a longer, more slender look.

- Different colored gemstones. Today, many brides and grooms-to-be are opting for more affordable, colored gemstones such as sapphires, garnets, amethysts, and tourmalines. For those that want an edgier look, grey diamonds, are very popular. However, price isn’t the only appeal of the colored gemstones. Many couples value the individuality and uniqueness that the colored stones help express as well as the seemingly endless variety of choices.

- Fingerprinting scans for wedding rings. Another hot, new and modern trend is wedding rings with fingerprints. This is when couples have the fingerprint impression of their spouse-to-be engraved on their wedding ring. The fingerprints can be on the outside or inside of the band. Either way, it’s a meaningful and beautiful way to personalize wedding rings. Fortunately, the process is also inexpensive and simple. The couple uses a fingerprint kit to make fingerprint impressions, scans the fingerprints and sends them to their jeweler (after choosing the perfect wedding ring, of course). The jeweler then uses a laser to engrave the fingerprints onto the wedding bands or the fingerprints are transferred to the CAD file and then used in the creation of a 3D model that is cast later.

- The east-west setting. This modern and dramatic trend uses an east- west (or horizontal) setting for the diamond rather than the more traditional north-south setting. The east-west setting is good for just about any cut, from classic to modern, as well as just about any type of stone; diamonds or the more modern, colorful gemstones. We are also seeing rings with a diagonal positioning of the center stone, which adds even a bit morel drama and flare to the ring.
- Rose gold and mixed metals. Wedding rings and engagement rings are going two-tone with brides looking for mixed metals to create a more unique look. White gold rings with subtle rose gold accents or bolder yellow gold accents are all on the table this year, and they’re all fresh and all beautiful.
- Stackable bands or multiple bands. Stackable bands are another beautiful wedding jewelry trend we are seeing today. While this trend requires a little more thought to maintain a cohesive look, stackable bands work well with colored gemstones, east-west settings, mixed metals and all of the wedding jewelry trends listed here.
