PRIDE Month – 7 Ways to Celebrate LGBTQ+ Culture and Achievements

Opal Bezel Ring

The Personal Rights in Defense and Education (PRIDE) organization was formed in Los Angeles, California 1966, while PRIDE Month was established over 30 years later, in 1999, to commemorate the Stonewall riots of 1969, a watershed moment in the LGBT movement for civil rights. Today, PRIDE Month provides an opportunity to celebrate the resilience, courage, and resourcefulness of the LGBTQ+ community.

PRIDE Month takes place the entire month of June, supporting the voices and culture of the LGBTQ+ community, and many cities and towns host LGBT PRIDE parades, marches, rallies, commemorations, festivals, and other special events. Today, we look at some of the fun and meaningful ways people can participate in PRIDE Month.

  1. Attend a PRIDE parade or a festival, or other kind of PRIDE event. Almost every country and most major cities have outdoor PRIDE events that celebrate awareness and social acceptance. And if you can’t find one near you, many of these events offer a virtual attendance option.
  2. Support LGBTQ+ art and culture. The LGBTQ+ community is vibrant, varied, and prominent. They have had a far-reaching impact on culture, social scenes, fashion, and the arts. Express your support for these achievements by participating in LGBTQ+-themed artistic and musical events.
  3. Hang a PRIDE flag outside your home. A simple but effective way to demonstrate your support for the LGBTQ+ community is to hang a rainbow flag outside your home. Hang one to show that you are proud to support their civil rights, culture, and history. Just remember to hang it horizontally with the red stripe on top, the same way a natural rainbow appears in the sky.
  4. Donate to a PRIDE organization. Numerous organizations are working tirelessly throughout the year to assist LGBTQ+ communities by providing life-saving resources, legal representation, community outreach, etc. Donations keep these organizations afloat. You can easily find one to make a donation to via a simpleGoogle search.
  5. Volunteer at PRIDE events and charity organizations. If funds are short, volunteering at a PRIDE organization is another excellent way to show your support. Many of these organizations provide training for volunteer positions as well.
  6. Wear rainbow-hued clothes and buy rainbow-colored products. Look for brands that not only create rainbow-hued clothing and products but also actively support the PRIDE community. Wearing their products helps raise awareness and sensitivity about the issues this community regularly faces.
  7. Wear PRIDE-inspired rainbow jewelry. If you’re looking for a way to show your support all year round at any time, event or occasion, then consider wearing PRIDE-inspired rainbow jewelry like the beautiful and elegant statement pieces below. They can be worn with PRIDE and style.
