A Guide to Designing One-of-a-Kind Jewelry
Designing a custom piece is a different experience from buying ready-made jewelry.
You’re not selecting something that already exists you’re creating something personal, meaningful, and entirely your own. Whether you’re starting with a clear vision or just an idea, our role is to guide you through the process and bring it to life with care and precision.
If this is your first time exploring custom jewelry, here are a few things to know before getting started.
How do I share my idea?
You don’t need a perfect design to begin.
A photo, a sketch, or even a general idea is often enough. Many of our clients come to us with inspiration rather than a finished concept and that’s exactly where our process begins.
We’ll work with you to refine your vision, explore design directions, and shape it into something that feels complete, balanced, and uniquely yours
How is the cost determined?
Each piece is one-of-a-kind, and pricing reflects the specific details of your design.
Factors such as complexity, metal type and weight, and the choice of gemstones all play a role. But beyond materials, pricing also reflects the level of craftsmanship, design work, and attention your piece receives.
We approach pricing with care and intention ensuring it is fair, transparent, and aligned with the quality of the final piece. Throughout the process, we’ll guide you through thoughtful options so you can make decisions that feel right for both your vision and your investment.
Can I see the design before it’s made?
Yes! and this is one of the most important parts of our process.
Before production begins, we create a detailed, photorealistic render of your piece. This allows you to see exactly how it will look and request any adjustments.
In some cases, we can also create a physical resin model for you to try on. This gives you a real sense of size, proportions, and presence—so you can move forward with complete confidence.
We only begin production once you’ve fully approved the design.
What metals and gemstones do you work with?
We work with a wide range of high-quality materials, including gold, platinum, and silver, along with natural and lab-grown gemstones.
This flexibility allows us to design pieces that align with your aesthetic, your priorities, and your budget without compromising on quality or intention.
If you’re unsure what direction to take, we’ll guide you through the options and help you choose what feels right.
How long does the process take?
Each piece is made to order, so timelines depend on the complexity of the design.
In general, the design phase takes about one week, followed by 2–3 weeks for production. Most projects are completed within approximately 3–4 weeks.
If you’re working toward a specific date, just let us know. We’ll review your timeline and guide you through the best approach to meet it.
Can I use heirloom jewelry or stones?
Yes! and for many clients, this is one of the most meaningful ways to create something new.
We can incorporate existing pieces or gemstones into your design, preserving their story while transforming them into something you’ll love wearing today. You can read here how we crafted a new piece of jewelry using a clients original stone.
What if I’m not sure what I want yet?
That’s completely normal.
Some clients come to us with a very clear vision, while others are just starting with a feeling or an idea. Both are equally valid starting points.
Our role is to guide you asking the right questions, presenting thoughtful options, and helping you shape something that feels personal and intentional.
You don’t need to have it all figured out to begin.
What happens after I receive my piece?
Our relationship doesn’t end when your piece is delivered.
We offer ongoing support, including resizing, maintenance, and repairs when needed. Whether it’s a small adjustment or long-term care, we’re here to make sure your piece continues to feel as meaningful and beautiful as the day you received it.
How often should I clean and maintain my jewelry?
The care your piece needs depends on its design, the materials used, and how often you wear it. Pieces worn daily like engagement rings naturally benefit from more frequent attention than occasional jewelry.
As a general guideline, gentle at-home cleaning every few weeks can help maintain its brilliance, while periodic professional maintenance ensures everything remains secure and in excellent condition over time.
If you’re ever unsure, we’re always here to guide based on your specific piece, so you can feel confident caring for it long after it’s been made. learn more on how to clean fine jewelry
What makes custom jewelry different?
Custom jewelry is not just about how a piece looks it’s about how it comes to life.
It’s the experience of creating something that reflects your story, your taste, and your intention. It’s the ability to be involved in the process, to see it evolve, and to know that what you’re wearing was made specifically for you.
For many of our clients, that’s what makes it truly special.
Do custom pieces come with appraisals or certifications?
For most custom designs, certification isn’t necessary. However, for pieces that include high-value gemstones especially diamonds we provide appropriate certification to verify their quality and characteristics.
If you would like an appraisal for insurance purposes, we can arrange a third-party appraisal report upon request. This provides an official assessment of your piece’s value and composition. Learn more about busting common myths about jewelry appraisals.
We recommend requesting an appraisal during the production process, as it allows for the most accurate evaluation and is typically more efficient than completing one after the piece is finished.
