Color Trends at Baselworld
During the red carpet season in the US, trends were largely dictated by the deep pockets of the major jewelry companies. The result was, as I wrote previously, white diamonds, white gold and platinum.
However, when it came to what the majority of designers produced for Baselworld 2015, it was all about colored gems. Yellow and rose gold also outshined the white metals. So, which trend do you follow? Colored gems are interesting and lend themselves to more variety and creativity than diamonds. But diamond jewelry is often an easier sell.
The Brazilian brand, Brumani, impressed this year with tranquil, pastel hues, primarily pink and blues, in a variety of styles. Its Baobab collection is composed of cabochons of aquamarine and ruby, Brazilian pink tourmaline, “brown” diamonds and yellow gold. The Baobab Rosé Collection combined diamonds, pink quartz and Brazilian pink tourmaline, all embedded in pink gold.
Speaking of Brazil, one of the more popular gems shown at Baselworld was paraiba tourmaline, a bluish-green stone that used to come from Brazil. The mines in the Paraiba region are now depleted, which has made the stone more popular than ever. However, the same paraiba tourmaline (at a much more affordable price) has been found in parts of Africa and that is what is mostly being sold today. The best example at the trade fair was a Chopard ring featuring a 41.57-carat oval shaped paraiba tourmaline from Mozambique.

Yoko London, which specializes in pearl jewelry, showed off its color with a variety of designs, styles and price points—from high jewelry to fashion—using various shades of pink, yellow, white and black Tahitian pearls mixed with white and colored gold and a variety of gemstones.
Georg Jensen and its managing director of jewelry, Meeling Wong, created several collections of refined jewelry that provide a contemporary reinterpretation of the traditional designs of the famed silversmith brand. Among the items that stood out was a collection of pieces in collaboration with colored gemstone mining company, Gemfields.
Dani by Daniel K, is a simulated, colored diamond jewelry brand by Daniel Koren, who used to specialized in precious diamond jewelry. This collection is set in sterling silver. Koren said the brand focuses on the design and creation of luxury jewelry appropriate for both day and night.
So, what this all means is that, while diamonds may be the safe choice, there are plenty of opportunities to add color to your jewelry designs. Here just a few beautiful examples of these possibilities made for other Jewelrythis clients:
