A trillion cut is a triangular type of gemstone cut composed of three equal sides. Originally the trillion cut referred to a diamond cut developed by the Asscher brothers, but it has since become popular to use it for colored gemstones as well. It can have many variations, including curved sides and different table shapes. Today, the term can be applied to all triangular cut gemstones, including triangular-shaped cabochons, regardless of the faceting.
