Stud earrings are small pieces of jewelry consisting of a post that is inserted through a pierced hole in the ear and held in place by backing, usually a type of clutch. Studs do not dangle down from the ear and usually have a simple design such as a small gemstone or pearl set in gold or silver. They are the first type of earring used when you first get your ears pierced but remain as a staple in most earring collections as they are easy and comfortable to wear.
