The mounting of a ring refers to the process of setting the main or center stone of a ring. When a ring is only semi-mounted it means it is only partially or half mounted. Thus it is only halfway complete. When a ring is only semi-mounted, it does not have its center stone in place although the accent stones that surround the center or embellish other parts of the piece as well as other setting details are finished.
