The ruby is one of the four precious gemstones along with diamonds, emeralds and sapphires. It is distinguished by its deep and lustrous red color. It is an extremely hard and durable gemstone, registering 9 on the Mohs Scale of Hardness. Almost all rubies have flaws so finding one without any imperfections is extremely rare. They have been found all over the world, but most of the finest rubies were mined in Myanmar.
