Pronounced, pah-vay, the pavé setting uses a collection of small round gemstones to ‘pave’ the surface of the jewelry metal. Pavé is French for pavement, so it is appropriately named since it gives the appearance of metal paved with bright, sparkling gemstones and hides the metal from view. The effect is to enhance the overall design’s brilliance. There are 6 types of pavé settings: micro, u-cut, French, petite, bright cut, and scalloped.
