Jade is actually two separate ornamental gems: nephrite and jadeite. It is mostly known for its green coloring, but also appears naturally in other colors such as yellow and white. Qualities that increase its value are semi-transparent clarity and fine texture. Jade is generally sold by the piece rather than by weight and of the two jades, jadeite is more valuable than nephrite.
