Inlay jewelry is a design technique where gemstones are inserted into channels specifically designed and carved into the piece for the gemstones. Unlike set jewelry that uses settings for gemstones, inlay jewelry doesn’t have settings. The gemstones are held in place in the channel by a special glue and the shape of the channels are designed to match the shape of the gemstones. For example, if a stone is round, the channel will also be round. If a stone is square, the channel will be square etc.
