The standard system used for grading the quality of diamonds was developed by the Gemological Institute of America and is based on the four Cs (4Cs) method that looks at color, cut, clarity and carat weight. This system is the standard grading system used internationally. On the other hand, there is still no recognized grading system for colored gemstones so instead of assigning them a grade, gemologists individually describe their 4C qualities.
