Like chandelier earrings, drop earrings hang below the earlobe. Unlike chandelier earrings, however, drop earrings hang only slightly below the earlobe and don’t sway with movement; they are stationary or move only slightly. In contrast, dangle earrings will swing to and fro and can be quite long even down to the shoulders. The ornament in a drop earring is usually suspended with an ‘o-ring’ and the closure is usually a post or a stud.
