The crown is the upper portion or top of a gemstone or cabochon that you usually see when viewing the ‘face’ of the stone. It is typically a raised area, although crowns can be cut differently so some can be very high or flat or even concave. For faceted gems, the crown is the area above the girdle. The term ‘table’ is used when referring to the flat top of the gemstone’s crown.
