The traditional way of creating jewelry involves hand drawn sketches that were then hand-carved into wax block models of the design. Once the wax was burned away and left just a hollow wax model of the jewelry design, the model was then filled with the appropriate metal to create the jewelry piece. With computer-aided design (CAD), we use a program to create stunning, complex designs far beyond what is possible by hand. Computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) uses machinery to create and manufacture the 3D jewelry piece. This example can give you a better understanding of the CAD/CAM process from start to finish.
