The term ‘antique’ is used for objects that have value because they have a historical significance, and are beautiful and rare. For an object to be considered antique, it must be at least 100 years old. Similarly, antique jewelry must be at least 100 years old, historically significant, rare and precious. Filigree, enameling, and Christian-themes and motifs are techniques commonly seen in antique jewelry. Antique jewelry should not be confused with vintage jewelry, which among other differences, is between 50-100 years old. Read our blog on antique and vintage jewelry to learn more about their differences. Note that antique-style jewelry is not the same as actual antique jewelry. Rather antique-style jewelry is a recreation of antique jewelry.
