Silver is one of the nine precious metals (the others being gold, iridium, palladium, platinum, osmium, rhenium, rhodium and ruthenium). It is a lustrous, soft white metal and is often used in the production of coins, electronics, jewelry, and a range of other objects. Fine silver is 99.9% pure silver, and while beautiful, is too soft and malleable for most uses, so it is usually alloyed with copper to create sterling silver.
