Fancy cuts refer to gemstones that are cut in any shape other than round or oval. They include the Asscher cut, cushion cut, emerald cut, heart-shaped cut, marquise or tear-drop shaped cut, pear-shaped cut, princess cut, radiant cut, rectangle cut, and free-form shaped cuts. Fancy cuts can use the brilliant-cut facet arrangement, step cuts and mixed cuts. The most important qualities of fancy cuts are symmetry and length-to-width ratio.
